House Buying Update

Buying a house isn't as exciting as I thought it was going to be, it's a hell of a lot of paperwork and although I have pinned a million and one things I like on a board on Pinterest, I can't actually do anything until I move in!

It seems my life is currently full of paperwork, phone calls and paying people!
I don't know what I did expect about buying a house but omgosh, it's long winded!

We have had some great news this week though, our mortgage was accepted by our lender and our house survey is booked for Tuesday so it's all go now!
During this whole process there's been so much stuff I didn't even think about! I've now got life insurance, to cover my mortgage and give a cash pay out to my husband should the worst happen. It's a pretty morbid thing to think about considering I'm only 26 but it's something that might one day, be the difference between being able to afford our house or loosing it.
There's also home and contents insurance which comes hand in hand with the mortgage. Prices vary so much from place to place! I had a broker ring me who quoted me a massive £670 a year yet online I've been quoted around the £300 mark.

There's also loads of other insurances you can take out such as Scottish Power, boiler cover. Boilers cost a fortune and if for any reason it stops working, it's nice to know your not going to have a massive bill on your hands!

I'm still super excited about my relocation, I can't wait to get in and decorate everything how I want it, not having to worry about the landlord is going to be amazing! I'm still waiting for the contracts to come through and until they do I still have no idea of my moving date but hopefully it won't be too long now. I can't wait to be by the sea!

I would say to anyone buying a house, save more for fees than you expect. It's amazing just how quickly it all adds up!

Until next time,

  1. Oh god, buying a house can be a nightmare! We had loads of trouble when we bought ours last year, and it resulted in more and more paperwork. It's all worth it when you finally get the keys though :)

Hope everything goes as smoothly as possible for you.

  2. Moving house is probably one of the most stress things you can do. I know your pain! It took us ages to find ours.

  3. Buying a house can be an absolute nightmare, so much paperwork! But it's also exciting. Good luck!
