How To Keep Your Blog Alive, When Your Away

As your reading this, I'm in Florida and I'm flying back tomorrow (22nd). So how do I keep fresh content and my social media going while I'm away?

I won't lie, it's hard work. Not only am I away but I'm also moving at the end of Jan, so I've had to get enough content ready for that too!

So how do I keep my blog and social media alive, when I'm away?

Scheduling

Scheduling will make your life, so much easier. You can write content in advance and time & date it to be ready to be posted.
For example this post was written on the 7th Jan, although I've been super busy I made sure I sat down and wrote the post so it could go out while I was away. I also made sure I have Tweets ready to go and Facebook posts scheduled, it is a tedious task but it really does pay off.

After I've written all the content, I head over to Hootsuite. I don't know how I feel about Hootsuite at the moment as I am having issues but as I've been so busy I haven't had time to re-schedule and try out other platforms, however it serves a purpose!
First I make sure I have relevant tweets set up and ready to go about my new blog post around every 2 hours. A tweet lasts around 20 minutes on Twitter due to everyone updating so often and I've found every 2 hours allows me to remind people of my content without spamming.

I also schedule Facebook with my new content. I find Facebook a strange platform and to actually interact with all of your pages 'likers' you need to post around 3 times a day. However I tend to post once every other day, around 7pm and share it on my personal Facebook too, which really does help.

Instagram is another platform I just post to freely, I always try to make at least one post a day so there's always something new but I tend not to schedule this.

I will always try to log on at some point, even if it's just to tweet something completely un-blog related, catch up with some news or join in with the latest gossip!

  1. I post on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I try to avoid over posting as I do not want to be unfollowed.

Thanks for the tip on tweeting every 2 hours. I assumed this would be seen as spam.

  6. I swear by scheduling tweets! Honestly, even if I'm not away, just scheduling them for the week makes life so much easier. I know then that blog links, BL links, IG links etc will go out during the day from Hootsuite and I can just tweet about anything else as and when. I've not had to go away, yet, for longer than night since I started blogging but I'll definitely be referring back to this post when I do have to! Thanks for such a useful post. Hope you had a great time on holiday! And good luck with the move! x www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x
