5 Top Tips For A Good Nights Sleep*

I love my sleep! The arrival of my baby made my very happy memories of having undisturbed sleep and gorgeous lay ins a thing of the past to start with. Now he sleeps through the night (and I am SO grateful) I'm back to looking forward to bed time, so I thought I'd share some of my top tips for getting a great nights sleep.

I think everyone suffers from a bad nights sleep now and then, I know I have patches of staring into the darkness at 2am every now and then so I thought I'd share my top tips for getting some good kip.

1. Have A Room You Love
I think one of the most important things is to have a room you love being in. One that has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and is full of lovely plump pillows and bedding you love. I've recently just redecorated my bedroom with a statement pink flamingo wallpaper and it's probably one of my favourite rooms in the house.
I love having my room tidy and full of gorgeousness that makes me want to sink into bed and relax.

2. A Good Quality Mattress
Since I've left home, over the years I've had some shocking mattresses. From those sprung ones with that dodgy spring to cheap memory foam that goes lumpy and doesn't support you, mattresses really do make the world of difference.
Mattresses such as these http://adjustablebeds.co.uk/airflow-mattresses offer everything you need for that perfect mattress, no sales pitch just useful information about what your buying and what you can expect.

3. A Nice Hot Bath
Nothing puts me in the right frame of mind for a good ole nights sleep quiet like a nice relaxing bath. I'm a total sucker for Lush bath bombs, so I love a good soak with a candle burning while I scroll through social media joining in on Blogger chats.

4. Get A Routine
I think bedtime routines are something we forget about as we get older but they're just as important as our morning ones. Having a routine you do every night will help your body relax and get ready to sleep. I always brush my teeth, take my makeup off, put on various lotions and potions and get into my PJs before I get into bed. I also like to make sure I have anything organised for the morning that I'll need if I'm going to be in a hurry as I know even if I do hit that snooze button, I've got it covered.

5. Put Social Media Away
Did you know sitting in bed on your phone is one of the worst things you can do for a good nights sleep? Experts suggest it doesn't give our brains time to relax and when we finally do put down our gadgets our mind is still racing with everything we've just seen or game we've played. Try banning yourself from you smart phone or tablet at least half an hour before bed and if you need something to do why not pick up a book?

These are my top 5 tips for a great nights sleep, what are yours?

Until next time,

  1. I've never slept well, when I was a teenager, I suffered from insomnia and would go days without sleeping. I generally get about 3-4 hours a night these days but I'm gonna try some of your tips to see if they help! Great post !

  2. Great tips! I go through phases of sleeping really well, and then not sleeping at all. It's amazing how much of a difference a good quality mattress makes though. Our old one had a groove in it on my side where I'd sat on it every day (we didn't have anywhere else to sit at the time!) When we got a new one, not only was I free of back pain but I also slept so much better, and woke up feeling rested! x www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x
