Turner Contemporary - Entangled

It was my birthday over the weekend. I turned the ripe old age of 28 and I decided during the day I fancied popping to Margate to visit the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery. What I didn't realise was we'd find so many quirky bits and there's so much more than just Dreamland.

So instead of asking to go clubbing, go out on a bar crawl or go on some extensive shopping trip, I asked to go to an art museum. Does that mean I'm officially getting old now?

There's been an exhibition called Entangled that I've been wanting to go to since I heard about it. It's an exhibition on threads and making which includes installations, textiles and sculpture from over 40 female artists from the mid 20th century until today. Don't get me wrong I am, in no shape or form any kind of art buff, nor am I even well educated on art despite my BTEC but as I love anything crafty, I thought it would be worth a look.

I loved quite a few of the installations inside the exhibit from gorgeous installations to a set of penguins that look so alive, they might just walk off, there's loads to take in. I won't ruin it by telling you or showing you all of what the exhibition has to offer but if your in the area it's certainly worth a little stop.

The gallery itself is pretty impressive too. From the super modern building right on the seafront to a giant dragon made of chillies and decorated with tiny bird skulls or the lift that's cover floor to ceiling in various materials and finishes, it's a really lovely little gallery.

What we didn't expect to find were some really quirky little things outside of gallery! There's an indoor market with lots of amazing things inside such as a London bus that's been converted into a cafe, an old school barber and the smallest bar ever. It also had some pretty different art inside on the walls!

We ended our visit with a quick walk along the sea front as it's bloody freezing down here in Feb haha. We headed home to get ready for our family meal out!

Have you ever visited Margate?

Until next time,

  1. This looks so cool! I've never been to a modern art museum and I've not been to Margate either.

  2. I would have loved this. I visited the Turner Prize in the Tate Britain in January. I adore modern art. Those penguins!
